I have seen many posts concerning elderly parents unable to access their maisonette homes, especially after illness. They must be delegated to the downstairs by reconstructing a bedroom or store.
However, there are measures we can take to mitigate such incidences.
1. Bungalows are great their accessibility is not limited.
2. Ramps- useful for wheelchair access indoors and outdoors.
3. Have an Elevator or chair lift to help access the upper floors.
4. Motion sensors that can detect falls and high-
decibel sounds like screams or shouts.
5. Filling in the cracked uneven floor with holes and bumps is a recipe for disaster.
6. Motion lighting - they only go on when needed and no need to use sockets.
7. Alarm system to use within the house in case of emergency.
8. Gadgets that automatically go off when not in use.
9. Rails for support in the bathroom, non-slip floors, chairs in the shower, and a large bathroom to allow wheelchair access.
